A coping skill for anxiety: Silence

When someone first introduced me to the concept of silence, and how to use it for emotional health, I was skeptical. How could having silent moments decrease anxiety and worry, as well as improve mood stability? Once I tried it and incorporated it into my lifestyle, I noticed a changed. I was less frustrated, more aware and felt more in control. But how do you engage in this silence?

Some tips would be:

Pick the same time and location every day

Make sure all electronics are off

Realize that you cannot master silence if you only do it a few times

Be patient with yourself and think of the many benefits of slowing yourself down, such as improved mood, positivity, decreased anxiety and depression and improved relationships.
